Solarizing containers

We can apply the principles of solarization on a small scale by using the sun's heat to sterilize used potting soil, potting soil that has been kept in open bags.

Aboveground containers heat up faster than in-ground beds, so the container method usually works in only 2 weeks provided the weather is hot and sunny. Store solarized soil in containers until ready to use.
