Re: Who's church
Oh yes, I've heard of the Churches of Christ. Living in the Deep South, there are probably a dozen Churches of Christ in my city alone. They are part of the Restoration movement of the early 19th century that sought to recapture the simplicity of the early Christian Church and get away from denominationalism. Most people would recognize them for being strictly congregational in their church government and from refraining to use musical instruments during worship services.
The Restoration movement today has three distinct bodies. The Churches of Christ is probably the largest of the three, with the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ being the second largest, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) being the third. The Churches of Christ tend to be the more conservative of the three, the CC/COC kind of moderate and the Disciples of Christ tend to be more liberal. Of course, that is a generalization, since all three branches tend to place a lot of emphasis on the local congregation running its own affairs and you would probably find conservative to liberal congregations in each branch.
