Default Mental and spiritual health

What do you do to help take care of your overall health including areas that do not fall under physical health? I am curious to hear what methods people have.

I try to be physically fit and to exercise. I enjoy Yoga and using mental relaxation techniques as well. There are many ways to keep up with your total health.

I take time out every day for a walk with my husband, and at least a few times a week take a book into a nice long bath to unwind. If I miss my daily walk or don't get some reading done I turn into a grouchy monster.

I know I should try to do more than I do, but I have some health issues that cause me to not be as active as I like. I'm really working on drinking more water and eating better, because that's all I can manage at the moment.

On the spiritual side, I pray and read my Bible daily (well, most days anyway). I find that spending time on my spiritual self is more important than the physical. It also helps me to deal better with the things I'm dealing with physically.

One of the things I've done recently for my mental health is to work hard on changing my perspective so that I realize that life can be "good enough" and still fulfilling. So as opposed to always striving for more, I am becoming content with what is. Kind of a Zen thing.

I only know what I'd *like* to do... what's been in my plans to take care of those other areas. That would be simply making sure that I have more time for myself. I know that I spend too much time working and just some time to relax would do wonders. I'm doing a mini-vacation next week, so it's a start. (And no laptop like last time).

A friend of mine suggested that I take a 15 minute mini-vacation every day to help with my need to relax more. She said that it can really do wonders to calm you down and refresh you.

That might work for me unless it involved a nap. I just can't do that because I end up feeling worse than I did when I started it. And if it was long enough to actually have fallen asleep, forget it, I feel miserable for the rest of the day.

I've never been very good after taking a "cat" nap, either. My husband's grandmother, on the other hand, would wake up after a 15-20 minute nap, ready to take on the world. Heck, I don't even GET to sleep in 15-20 minutes, much less feel refreshed afterward!
