I am not sure that online dating has any more thngs to look out for than any other way of meeting people. of course, I would not recommend picking up stakes and hiking across the country to g out with somebody that you only know via the Internet. But I see nothing wrong with striking up an acquaintance with someone who lives in close proximity and then deciding to meet on neutral territory.

Well most people I ever dated were those I met at school or at work or wherever. But actually, my husband and I did meet online. So sometimes it can work. However, my best friend always seems to have not so great dates from online.

A friend of mine started using dating sites after getting sick of being single. His latest attempt has been interesting - he's been with the girl nearly 18 months, they might break up soon (he caught her cheating on him, but she says it's over and he's giving her another chance) but if they were together that long then thats a good sign that you can meet some interesting people online.

Nah...I don't think I'll ever do it...although some people are successful there are several failures...and they aren't highlighted obviously...

I've always considered online dating as embarrassing and "a last resort" but I accidentally found my current guy this way!
I joined up on a site called Punk Connection to find old friends and what not (yeah, I used to be in the punk scene, haha) and I thought I recognized him from somewhere.
We met up and then I thought, maybe I didn't recognize him but I know we've had to be in the same haunts in the last few years so I figured he'd be cool to hang out with.
Well, we've been dating happily for 4 months and my friend (who has mega relationship problems) is quite jealous. He has manners, he thinks of others before himself, he works hard...and for once I have someone who actually has a job, a car, his own place, and went to college (and finished it!) He really is the sweetest guy I've ever met...don't tell him I said that

I have two friends that meant online. One lived in England and the other was in the States. They are now married and expecting their first child and seem to be very happy. I think it can work.

I tried online dating as a way to keep another newly divorced friend (I was too) company. I pooh-poohed it the whole way, met some absolute nut-jobs and decided it was a terrible way to meet people. But then I met the man who is currently my husband! I still don't think it's a great way to meet people but maybe everyone else who meets a spouse online feels that way too
