Default Retirement

My husband retired nearly two years ago. (earlier I said one somewhere )

It's been a difficult adjustment for both of us. I've been a homemaker with four kids most of my life although I did work outside the home part time for short periods.

The most difficult thing for me is never having any time alone. My husband was totally engrossed in his work and has no social friends or hobbies now to get him out of the house.

As a result, I've started selling Avon products so I can get out of the house a little.

Doe anyone have other suggestions?

My husband is retired. At first it was great having him home, but after a while the newness wore off. He is the type that has to be doing something all the time. He gets bored very easy. He finally got a part time job and it is a lot better.

My folks are facing this same situation. My Mom is totally carzy from my Dad around all the time. She sometimes goes out and drives<all by herself> just to get away for awhile. My heart goes out to you, Echos

I know that can't get easy!! When my husband took off a week after our baby was born, I sure appreciated the help but the constant 24/7 got rough!!

I think having a parttime job to do is a huge help. Also, help him to get his own job to focus on. What are his hobbies? Golf? Cards? I know there are groups of retired men everywhere to get together for their hobbies (their wives probably throw them out of the house!)

My heart goes out to you. I bet it is NOT easy!! There is such thing as too much of a good thing.

I know my husband was home for a few months earlier this year as the result of a work injury and he nearly drove me crazy! LOL

Try to spend some time together. On weekend you can go to see a movie or at restaurant. How have you spent your valentine's day?

I've noticed "retired" nowadays has changed a bit. Aside from picking up hobbies, have either of you considered volunteering or getting a "job" with organization that you like or support?

I always kid about the Walmart greeter job when I retire, but in all honesty I don't think I'd mind working small odd jobs part time here and there....

Though... I'm nowhere near retirement so my opinion might lack validity. lol... value perhaps, but the opinion might change in time and with experience. :/

Sounds like he needs a hobby, too.
