Smart have released a new initiative towards environmentally friendly driving called ‘smart eco driving’ that is aimed alongside the release of the Forctwo CDI which is currently the most eco friendly car on any production line due to its very low CO2 emissions.
The new ‘smart eco driving’ initiative is designed to educate drivers on smarter driving techniques to help cut back on CO2 emissions while saving drivers fuel costs at the same time. The initiative is available in on a ‘smart’ tutorial disc and will be relased later this year. Mercedes Benz will also release a similar program towards August with the same guidelines.
Motorists can also sign up for a one day class with an instructor who offers tips on how to cut back on their CO2 emissions and conserve gas. The instruction also receivers a ride along with an eco driving instructor who will help class members practice what they are taught on the road.
Mick Linford, a smart eco-driving expert, said that while the Smart CDI is one of the most eco-friendly cars to hit the road, it is still to driver’s advantage to take the class as the techniques can help enhance the eco-friendly qualities more while saving drivers valuable fuel money.
The class is geared around three principals that are commonly referred to as the GAS principals: stay in the highest Gear, Anticipate the future speeds and turns by looking ahead, and practice Smooth driving by minimizing the amount you have to accelerate and brake.
An additional eco-friendly car set to hit the UK roads is the all electric Smart Fortwo which will debut in the UK soon with a £375 rental fee for businesses and slightly lower for the public. 100 Fortwos will be distributed around the UL as test models in a trial before the car hits the dealer lots officially.
