Near-extinct fish broadcast on mobile TV

A documentary film highlighting the plight of the world’s fish stocks will launch as a mobile TV mini-series at the same time as it premières in cinemas across the world.

‘The End of the Line’, the first feature length documentary about the devastating impact of overfishing, will be broadcast as a reworked six-part series on the Babelgum mobile TV platform to coincide with its theatrical release.

Dubbed “An Inconvenient Truth for fish”, the documentary warns that fish will be extinct in 50 years if action is not taken soon to curtail the effects of overfishing.

Around three quarters of the world’s fish stocks are already dangerously depleted, the documentary warns.

Supermarkets, restaurants, and consumer demand are all blamed for the crisis.

Fisherman are called to account for breaking quotas, whilst politicians stand accused of ignoring the problem.

The film’s release on Babelgum is being hailed as a “new trend” for feature-length documentaries, which often highlight environmental or wildlife issues.

“Mobile and internet delivery is becoming an integral part of the overall distribution process” for documentary movies, said Karol Martesko-Fenster, Babelgum’s general manager for film.

“We always wanted to incorporate mobile and internet platforms into our release strategy,” said Rupert Murray, ‘The End of the Line’ director.
