Coke plant produces bottles made from plants

Coca-Cola has taken a step towards the ‘green’ side with their new PlantBottle, which is a plastic bottle much like the current packaging only it’s partially composed of plant compounds.
The new PlantBottle is still recyclable and when compared with the typical petroleum based plastic it reduces CO2 emissions and is less dependent on a non-renewable resource.
President of the World Wildlife Fund, Carter Roberts, lauded Coke for its PlantBottle, which is comprised of a 30% plant base, for taking a step to tackle sustainability that consumers and other similar corporate businesses will notice.
The PlantBottle is helpful to the environment in more ways than one as it can be recycled without contaminating PET in current recycling plants, produces 25% less carbon emissions from
manufacturing plants than its PET counterpart, and is not as dependent on a non-renewable resource.
CEO Muhtar Kent of Coca-Cola stated publicly that the PlantBottle is the first step towards realising the Coca-Cola sustainable vision of one day producing a bottle that is 100% renewable and highlights Coca-Cola’s dedication to environmental ingenuity.
Coca-Cola was the first soda company to create a recyclable bottle and is now the first to create a non-petroleum based bottle with the aid of plants.
The PlantBottle will first be used on Dasani bottles from the North American Coca-Cola factory later in the year and will be used for Vitamin Water bottles in 2010.
