Benn tells US it must lead climate change

Hillary Benn, the Environment Secretary, met with United States environmental representatives in DC as well as the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon yesterday, to discuss several key environmental concerns such as food, green economy practices, and climate change.
Benn spoke to many in the new Obama administration about sustainability issues emphasising that if they are not addressed at the upcoming UN conference on climate change there could be global implications.
He also spoke widely about the link between global warming and a decrease in agricultural food crops which he labelled a true sustainability issue that needs globally addressed.
According to Benn the Copenhagen UN conference needs to be a time when countries stand up and agree to reduce carbon emissions and address water scarcity issues, loss of biodiversity across the world, and food production.
Benn actively encouraged the United States to take part in the conference stating that the effort will need the aid and lead of President Obama and the United States in order to influence other countries to join in the battle against climate change.
