Recession ‘nothing’ compared to climate change

The global economic crisis is ‘nothing’ compared to the future impacts of climate change, Prince Charles warned this week.
Speaking to Brazilian business leaders during his tour of the Amazon rainforest, the Prince said: “We are, I fear, at a defining moment in the world’s history.
“The global recession is far worse than any seen for generations.”
More concerning, however, is “the threat of catastrophic climate change calls into question humanity’s continued survival on the planet.
“Any difficulties which the world faces today will be nothing compared to the full effects global warming will have on the worldwide economy.
“It will result in vast movements of people escaping either flooding or droughts, in uncertain production of foods and lack of water and, of course, increasing social instability and potential conflict.
“It will affect the well-being of every man, woman and child on our planet.”
He added that the world has just 100 months to change its ways if a climate disaster is to be averted.
“The best projections tell us that we have less than 100 months to alter our behaviour before we risk catastrophic climate change and the unimaginable horrors that this would bring.”
A recent protest by Greenpeace called upon the European Union to redirect the billions of euros it has promised for bailing out the banks into bailing out the planet from global warming.
