City scooter hire encourages ‘trip chaining’

A student in Australia has come up with an electric scooter rental system to make urban travel easier than ever before.
The scooter renting system involves foldaway electric scooters being docked at lamppost style paypoints around the city.
City visitors can hire a scooter from the paypoint by paying with coins or a credit card.
The lamppost docking stations recharge the scooters whilst they are not in use.
Anton Grimes, the student who invented the scooter system, said he came up with the idea to help Sydney with its plan to become more pedestrian oriented.
“While the concept of a transport hire system is not new, the scale and vehicle type make this project unique and appropriate for smaller distance travel in built-up and denser environments,” Grimes said.
The scooter hire stations would be placed to encourage ‘trip chaining’ with public transport, he added.
