Britain Should Have China-Like Two Child Policy

Mr. Jonathan Porritt considerably upset many British parents recently, by claiming in a newspaper article that in order to save our planet, and fight global warming, it is necessary to reduce the population growth by contraceptive methods and abortion.

He claimed that couples who make a conscious decision to have a family with more than two children are to be considered irresponsible.

Chairman of the government’s Sustainable Development Commission, Mr Jonathon Porritt is firmly convinced that the commission’s report will declare that world governments will be compelled to reduce the growth in population through family planning.

The environmentalist does not regard it in the least upsetting to ask people to come to terms with the problem of overpopulation and the risks this can cause the planet.

Mr Porritt, who is patron of the campaign group Optimum Population Trust, claims that during a lifetime each British baby will burn up carbon amounting to two and a half acres of oak woodland.

He is determined to press forward with the issue that a family with more than two children is an irresponsible one.

At its current pace the population of Britain, now home to 61 million, should surpass 70 million by 2028.

Needless to say, parents were indignant to his statements, declaring that Britain would risk being similar to communist China, where only one child is allowed per couple.

Parents also declared that this was a violation of their human rights and that society already seemed to have a biased idea of what the number of an ideal family should be, and that we could do without Mr. Porritt’s environmentalist ideas.

  1. Credible scientific research confirms that our planet already has way more people on it than its ecosystem can support sustainably (the maximum sustainable number is around 2 billion; we are now at nearly 7 billion). This means that there are only two choices: Either humanity decreases its numbers voluntarily by reducing births, or the Four Horsemen will do it for us by increasing deaths.

Jonahon Porritt has rationally chosen the former. But to implement that, the average number of children each woman bears must be reduced to fewer than two. Of course, this should be achieved voluntarily; coercion is unacceptable. So, how else can this be done ethically except by persuading couples that to have more than two is irresponsible?

Over-population is the biggest issue facing us, as it is the root cause of climate change, extinctions, deforestation, etc. Porritt is right to raise it, and right in the approach he suggests for solving it.

  2. This is disgusting. The government has no right to meddle with families. The day government tells me how many children I can have, the day the war on big brother is lost. Let nature sort out “over population”. That’s what evolution is all about! We are interfering with nature TOO MUCH. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
