Have We Already Lost War To Save Environment?

Environment

Across the globe governments are making lots of political noise about being “green” and how their policies will help their country and the world win the fight against global climate change.

Unfortunately all this political hot air may well just be adding to the effects of global warming.

It may well be time to admit that the “fight against climate change” is about as effective as the “war on drugs” or the “fight against global poverty”.

There is not enough political will in the countries that matter in the war for the environment.

By 2050, even if our governments actually manage to lower carbon output back to 75% of 1999 levels the damage will be irreversible and the fight will have been lost.

Now is perhaps the time to turn to dealing with our failures and begin to plan exactly how the world is going to deal with the inevitable floods, hurricanes, food and water shortages and the multitude of other problems that will face us very soon.

If we wait until these problems become overwhelming we will be in the position we are in now with the climate, too little, too late.

Now is the time to accept defeat and move on to the next war, one that we may be able to win, the long term survival of human civilization in a form that at least resembles what we have today.
