Glass Company Put Emphasis On Recycling

Solaglas Windowcare, a company based in Rotherham, Yorkshire, is intent on persuading its employees to take charge of recycling at the glass replacement company by making it a priority in the workers’ minds.

The company intends to make recycling a major part of their business strategy by making use of renewable ideas wherever practical in their day-to-day working lives.

To this end a dozen employees including shop floor, management and admin staff have been selected to make up the company’s environmental committee.

Their job will be to look out for any possibilities where changes could be made to reduce company waste.

At head office, the company employs 300 people who are all being urged to recycle personal and work items, such as paper and drinks cans as well as polystyrene and many plastic products.

They are even having all the canteen food waste collected so that it can be made into compost.

The main emphasis will be on cutting down on waste, and recycling waste that is produced from manufacturing double glazed windows, which includes uPVC, glass and wood.

Admin staff are being urged to use both sides of pieces of paper to cut down on the 44,000 bin bags thrown out by the company each year.

The company is also investing in more environmentally friendly machinery and more efficient disposal units for their waste products.
