Manchester Transport Website Totally Wind Powered

Manchester-based design company Corporation Pop has created a new micro-site 21centurytransport.com.

There is nothing that unusual in the creation of the new site, but what is unusual is the idea that the site will be truly “green “by making use of a wind powered server.

The new Flash-based micro-site will be powered by wind turbines located near the server.

On the site itself there will be a short film developed by MIDAS and marketing Manchester.

The film delves into the development of a modern environmentally friendly transport system for the city.

Corporation Pop is also in the process of relocating its own website onto another wind powered server system.

These two schemes are part of Manchester’s Gold Award wining Environmental Business Pledge scheme, which is aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of businesses in the city.

Servers use considerable amount of energy and the company hopes that the website will illustrate that alternative wind power can be a viable way to help a company to reduce its carbon footprint.

Manchester’s proposed congestion charges, as well as providing a massive £3 billion shot in the arm for the city’s transport infrastructure, have made national headlines over the last few months, as the city tries to reconcile its transportation problems.

The body with the job of promoting the city across the country and internationally Marketing Manchester has produced a film that highlights possibilities of transport development and the effects they may have city and the surrounding area.

Having already been approved by the Department of Transport under its Transport Innovation Fund the film aims to show the possibilities of green transport in the major metropolitan areas.

The city’s inward development coordinators MIDAS, say that it is impossible to underestimate the effect that a high-quality, low carbon foot print, well integrated transport system can have on the economy and society of a large city.
