Greenpeace plans to up the pressure on the government to reconsider plans for a new coal power plant in Kingsnorth, Kent, by bringing in the flagship of its protest fleet, the Rainbow Warrior.

The 55-metre long ship will arrive in London on 20th October as part of the group’s Give the Boot to Coal campaign.

Free guided tours of the vessel will be available on 25th and 26th October.

Rainbow Warrior will then sail to Kent where activists from Oxfam, Tearfund, and the Women’s Institute will be invited on board to view campaign plans against the proposed power station.

Greenpeace spokesperson, Joss Garman, said the vessel will serve as a focal point as the campaign builds.

Activists opposed to the plant were given a morale boost last month when six campaigners who entered the site in protest were found not guilty of causing malicious damage, on the grounds that climate change presents such a great threat to the world.

The Rainbow Warrior has international fame for its environmental protests around the world.

The current ship is a rebuild of the original Rainbow Warrior, which was destroyed by French secret agents in 1985 when it was trying to prevent nuclear tests in the Pacific ocean.
