London on Tap urges bottled water boycott

Londoners are being urged to ditch the bottle and drink more tap water, in a campaign organised by Thames Water.
The London on Tap campaign aims to raise awareness amongst Londoners about the environmental consequences of drinking bottled water, as well as promoting the quality of the city’s tap water.
In addition, London’s eateries and watering holes are being asked to stop stocking bottled water, and serve tap water instead.
To promote the campaign, designers across the capital were asked to create a unique carafe water jug to be entered into a competition.
The winning design will be used in restaurants and bars that support the campaign from April next year.
This week, ten final designs were shortlisted to be showcased in City Hall.
The winner will be announced by London Mayor, Boris Johnson, in December, and will be awarded a £5,000 prize.
Aptly named Rosie Boycott, Chair of the London Food Board, said that boycotting tap water is ‘far better’ for the environment, as well as being good for the drinker’s bank balance.
Mayor Johnson pledged his support for the ‘magnificent’ campaign, and said that it will empower customers and help to cut waste in the capital.
