Irish companies offered onsite windfarms

Wind Energy Direct, an Ireland-based renewable energy company, has announced plans to install fifteen onsite wind farms at the biggest energy consuming Irish organisations.

The company will spend €60 million over the next four years installing the turbines, which will be provided and maintained at no cost to the organisations concerned.

Those who sign up for the scheme will pay WED for the energy used from the turbines, and are expected to save 10% on their energy bills in the first year.

Energy savings are likely to increase savings as the cost of fossil fuel energy increases. Last month the cost of energy in Ireland increased 17.5%.

According to WED, firms who sign up to the scheme could save €1 million in energy bills within five years.

WED says organisations suitable for the scheme include large factories, IT data centres and hospitals.

The company has already secured its first contract for the scheme with an unnamed company near Dublin.

WED founder Dominic Costello said the company has a number of investors, and has had no problems in getting funding from banks.

He added that interest has been especially high from companies looking to improve their green credentials.
