Prince Charles slams GM crops

One of the original celebrity “greenies”, Prince Charles, has hit out at the big food producers who in his opinion are messing around with nature and conducting experiments with GM crop production which have gone “seriously wrong”.
The Prince also stated that the soil around the world is being irredeemably damaged with GM food production techniques.
He went on to state that instead of supporting GM tactics the government should be emphasising their support for local farmers using more traditional methods.
Price Charles, who is himself an organic farmer at his estate Highgrove, believes that the production of GM foods is a disaster waiting to happen and in the end, small farms across the globe will be pushed under by the big food producers’ lust for profits.
The Price made his comments as it was announced that food prices have risen by 28%, the highest rate on record.
The big businesses counter that GM is the way forward in tackling worldwide food shortages, by reduced use of pesticides and increased crop sizes.
The Prince disagrees, saying that there is actually no evidence to show that GM produces bigger crops.
Although often mocked for his public comments on many issues, it is a fact that the Prince does get the attention of the press and public when he speaks out and this latest tirade is bound to please farmers and upset Whitehall.
