Shanks bosses act on landfill cost

Britain is undoubtedly, one of the biggest participants in land filling in Europe, and Shanks Group are trying to reduce their presence within the problem.
Shanks Group’s profits have more than doubled from its previous year, and it will see a bigger increase in profits when the British waste management company recycles more of the firm’s waste, due to the ever rising cost of landfills.
UK profits are up 109% at £6.9m, and the group’s as a whole at £44m.
The new European directive highlights requirements for the amount of waste allowed to be sent to landfill, but within a few years that shouldn’t be a problem; with tax up £24 a tonne, and likely to double by 2010, many people will actively switch to recycling.
Two thirds of Shanks’ annual waste is thrown into landfill, with only 27 percent recycled.
