Fuel protest in London

The heat continues to boil, as over 300 owner operated lorry drivers protest against the cost of diesel, which is now in excess of £1.25 in some areas.
The main route to and from the west to central London, the A40, had a lane closed to accommodate the drivers on their way to deliver the petiton.
The protest, which was held in London, hopes to achieve the scrapping of Alistair Darling’s proposed, 2p rise in fuel duty this year.
Truckers express their concern by explaining the effect fuel prices have.
With the increase of UK fuel prices, other drivers from places such as Luxembourg are able to drive here to get work, get it done, and still drive back in pocket, due to fuel costs as little as 50 pence per litre.
1000’s of drivers signed the petition, with the main reason for such a small turn out being again the fuel cost for such a long journey, with some drivers traveling from as far as Newcastle.
