Greenstar to make UK a recycling nation
by David Masters
April 7, 2008
The Dunstable Waste Group, a commercial disposal and recycling firm based in Bedfordshire, has been acquired by Ireland-based waste management group, Greenstar UK.
Greenstar is aiming to become the first company in the UK providing fully integrated, end-to-end recycling services.
This latest acquisition adds to Greenstar’s purchase of the Verdant Group last November. The Verdant Group has waste management contracts with over 20 local authorities in England, Wales and Scotland.
The Dunstable Waste Group is based in Houghton Regis, near Dunstable, and trades as Firbank Chiltern.
The group handles approximately 50,000 tonnes of recyclable materials and other waste every year, including glass, aluminium, and mixed general waste.
Ian Wakelin, Greenstar’s Chief Executive, hopes that his company’s expansion into the UK will allow UK citizens and businesses to throw away less and recycle more.
