Londoners charged £3.4 million for eco-bus fuel

London’s new hydrogen buses will be powered by fuel supplied by the transnational company Air Products.

The £3.4 million deal means that Air Products, which has a European base in Surrey, will be supplying the fuel for the 10 new buses, as well as installing, operating and maintaining the infrastructure that is needed to run hydrogen buses.

Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, announced the plan to trial the buses in November last year. The fleet of 10 hydrogen buses will include five buses powered by hydrogen fuel cells, and five buses powered by a hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engine.

Livingstone says that the new buses are an important step in his plans for a clean and efficient bus service.
