The new Subaru R1e an all-electric vehicle to go on display at the upcoming New York International Auto Show running March 21st to 30th. Located at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
The New York Power Authority is to evaluate two cars beginning this summer. The new electric Subaru R1e utilises the latest in battery technology, the fast-charge lithium ion battery.
This type of battery does not have the drawback of traditional lithium ion batteries that is known as ‘charge memory loss’. Which allows the new battery system to make quick charges, or partial charges without a disadvantage of drastically reducing the batteries usable life.
The car is capable of being ‘quick-charged’ up to 80% of its capacity in less than 15 minutes. A full charge will cost slightly less than $2; this can be completed in eight hours by connection to a general household electrical socket.
The Subaru R1e is a two seater vehicle with a top speed of 65 mph combined with a maximum range of 50 miles. The new vehicle utilises an AC permanent magnet synchronized motor that will produce 40 kW of power. At the end of their life, the new lithium ion batteries separate layers, will easily dismantle to allow for simple recycling.
