Britain bored by climate change chatter

A new YouGov poll has found that the British public is fed up of hearing about climate change warnings and thinks that the media gives the issue too much coverage.
YouGov conducted the poll for the Environmental Transport Association, quizzing over 2,000 adults. They found that 50% of everyone polled was bored of climate change. Men were twice as likely as women to find climate change boring.
Almost one third of those questioned thought the media gives too much coverage to climate change - a statistic that presents a challenge to politicians and campaign groups trying to get more media coverage for the issue.
Commenting on the poll, the ETA said that the government must take action to combat climate change if the public are to be engaged by the issues.
Andrew Davis, ETA’s director, said: “It is understandable that people are getting bored by endless green talk that is never translated into action.
“Increasing public apathy is a real concern for those of us in the environmental movement.
“The challenge for Alistair Darling in his Budget is to take action that matches his green rhetoric.”
Perhaps most worryingly, 4% of those polled did not fully understand what CO2 is. Another 4% have managed to miss all media coverage on climate change.
