Morgan, a UK-based manufacturer of luxury cars, have revealed plans for a fuel-cell power concept sports car.

Morgan’s ‘Lifecar’ was unveiled this week at the Geneva Motor Show, which is showcasing a number of environmentally-friendly technologies to an audience who may not have previously encountered them.

The only emission from the Lifecar is water. The car’s hydrogen cell is used to channel electricity to four super-efficient electric motors.

The Lifecar will have a mileage of 250 per charge, and will be able to reach 60 mph from standing in under seven seconds.

The management systems in the car were developed at Cranfield University. A bank of ultra capacitors fulfil the traditional role of batteries, allowing a significant reduction in weight.

In keeping with Morgan’s traditional designs, the car will be built around a wooden chassis, significantly decreasing the embodied energy of the final product.

Fuel cell-powered cars in the past have tended to be conversions of existing models, rather than being designed from scratch like the Lifecar.

The Lifecar has taken three years and £1.9 million to develop. It was funded in part by the British government.
