A poll conducted by WWF Northern Ireland has found that the country is more concerned about global warming than the rest of the UK. The Northern Irish people want to see business doing more in the fight against climate change.

Over 1,000 people were questioned in the poll. WWF Northern Ireland outlined the findings of the survey: There has been a sharp increase in the proportion of people who think that human activity is damaging the environment.”

People in Northern Ireland were found to be more likely than the rest of the UK to believe that businesses and industry have the capabilities and the potential to have an impact on climate change.

A recent meeting of business executives organised by the Carbon Trust emphasised the role that climate change will play in transforming the way that businesses operate.

Chief executive of the Carbon Trust, Tom Delay, said: “It’s only business that can build a low-carbon economy, because only business has the entrepreneurship, the ingenuity, and indeed, the straight capital resources to make the investments required to make a low-carbon economy a reality.”
