Waste cheats in Northern Ireland punished

Northern Irish authorities have come down hard on businesses who flout waste management and disposal laws, as two waste-cheating businessmen have discovered.
Noel Martin, from Scara in County Down, was fined a total of £5,000 for breaching waste management legislation.
Officers from the Environment and Heritage service caught Mr. Martin operating a site which contained controlled wastes without the license to do so.
The controlled wastes in question included scrap metal, end of life vehicles, and vehicle parts.
Eddie Torrens, from Ballymoney, was fined a total of almost £3,500 for his illegal operation of a waste management site. Officials investigating a site owned by Mr. Torrens found a substantial quantity of controlled waste there.
Again, most of this waste was made up of vehicles and vehicle parts. Approximately 4,000 vehicles were found on site at the time of the official’s visit.
