Wind farm in Scottish Isles may still go ahead

A BBC report claiming that the decision has already been reached to turn down a £500 million wind farm development of 181 turbines on the Scottish Isle of Lewis has been denounced as untrue by the Scottish Executive.

Radio nan Gaidheal, the BBC’s Gaelic news service, last week reported that the Scottish parliament is “minded to refuse” the development, which would rank among the biggest wind farms in Europe if it went ahead.

Campaigners opposed to the wind farm project say that to go ahead with the development would do “irreversible damage” to a vital wetland site.

A statement release by the Scottish Government last week stated that “No final decision has yet been taken and ministers are working towards finalising and announcing a decision in the near future.”
