Oscar winning movie star, and former teen heartthrob, Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic, The Aviator) and French movie maker, Luc Besson (Hitman) have announced they are teaming up, to produce a movie about the environment.
Tentatively titled ‘Boomerang’ the movie will be based on, ‘Earth from the Air” a series of images from all over the globe, by French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand. The film is intended to ‘raise awareness of the dire condition of the planet”
DiCaprio, is no stranger to the environmental debate, having narrated the well received ‘11th Hour’ last year. Also, at last years Oscars, he ditched the stretch limo, and arrived at the event in a hybrid car.
The actor, turned activist, is said to be heavily involved, with various groups, concerned with environmental issues. He said the he expects the film should be ready for release, on World Environment Day, June 2009.
This looks like being another venture, by Hollywood into the world of environmental issues, following on the previous huge box office success of Al Gore’s, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and, DiCaprio’s aforementioned, ‘11th Hour’
